Re: Pay for Delete Letter — [Account reference / last 4 digits]

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing about collection reference [Account reference / last 4 digits] to ask whether you would consider a payment of [Proposed payment] by [Proposed payment date] in exchange for resolving this account and requesting deletion of your collection tradeline from the credit reporting companies to which you reported it, if permitted by your reporting obligations.

Before any payment, please provide written terms identifying the account, payment amount and deadline, whether the payment fully resolves the balance, and the credit reporting action you are willing and able to take.

This is a proposal for your review, not an accepted agreement or a payment authorization. I understand that you may decline this request and cannot control reporting by other companies.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

How to use this letter

  1. Confirm who owns the debt and what the collector is authorized to accept.

  3. Review written acceptance and reporting terms before deciding whether to pay.

Frequently asked questions

Does paying guarantee deletion?

No. A payment does not guarantee removal, a score increase, or acceptance of this proposal.

Will this remove the original creditor’s entry?

A collector generally cannot control a separate tradeline reported by the original creditor.

What if the entry is wrong?

Use the credit reporting dispute process for inaccurate information. A payment proposal is different from an accuracy dispute.
