How far back USAA statements go
USAA lets you review, download, or print your bank account statements online. To have new statements delivered online, go to Document Preferences, pick the account, and set Document Delivery Settings to Online.
If a statement you need is not in My Documents, call USAA member services.
USAA bank verification letter
USAA has very few physical locations, so most members cannot walk into a branch for a signed letter. Call USAA member services and ask for an account verification letter, or send a secure message, and say exactly what the recipient needs to see.
Ask the requester whether your last two or three statements from My Documents will work instead. Most landlords accept them.
USAA proof of funds letter
For a home purchase or a large deposit, ask USAA member services for a letter showing your available balance as of a specific date, and name the accounts to include.
Proof of funds usually needs to be dated within the last 30 to 60 days. Our free proof of funds letter generator can help you draft what the recipient is asking for.
Statement, letter, or income report: which to send
People asking for a USAA bank statement usually want proof of one of three things: that the account is yours, how much is in it, or how much you earn. Send the document that answers their actual question.
| Document | Where it comes from | What it shows | How fast | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bank statement | You download it | Every transaction and the balance for one month | Minutes | Most rental applications and loan files |
| Bank verification letter | A banker prepares it | That the account exists, its open date, sometimes the balance | Same day to a few business days | Visas, some leases, employers, vendors |
| Proof of funds letter | A banker prepares it | Available balance as of a date | Same day to a few business days | Home purchases, large deposits, investors |
| Bank-connected income report | Built from a read-only bank connection | Recurring deposits, estimated monthly income, balances | About 5 minutes | Showing income without sending every transaction |
Does USAA work with Plaid?
Yes. USAA connects to Plaid, the service most budgeting, lending, and income apps use to read bank data. Search for USAA in the bank list, sign in, and choose which accounts to share. Your login goes to USAA, not to the app you are connecting, and you may be sent to USAA’s own sign-in page to approve access.
If a connection fails, it is usually because a security code timed out, and starting again normally fixes it. You can see and remove every app you have connected through Plaid at my.plaid.com.
Sending a USAA bank statement to a landlord or lender
Send the PDF you downloaded, not screenshots, and send only the months they ask for. Two or three recent statements are typical for a rental application. Lenders often want two full months with every page, including blank ones.
A statement shows every purchase you made that month. If you would rather share a summary, you can connect your USAA account and create an income report from your bank deposits. It shows recurring deposits and an estimated monthly income, and it comes straight from the bank, so the person reading it does not have to wonder whether a PDF was edited.
Reviewing statements from an applicant? Our bank statement checker walks through the signs of an altered statement, and you can ask applicants to connect their bank instead of uploading files.
