How far back Wells Fargo statements go
How far back you can go depends on the account. Wells Fargo keeps up to 7 years online for deposit accounts (checking and savings), home mortgages, and trust and managed investment accounts; up to 2 years for credit cards, home equity lines, and personal loans and lines of credit; and up to 12 months for auto loans.
For older statements, call Wells Fargo or ask at a branch.
Wells Fargo bank verification letter
A Wells Fargo account verification letter, also called a deposit verification or bank reference letter, confirms that you have an account and can include its open date and balance. Request one by calling Wells Fargo or visiting a branch.
Have the recipient’s name and contact details ready, along with what the letter needs to say. Wells Fargo may ask you to sign an authorization to release the information to a third party. Allow a few business days if the letter is being mailed or sent directly to the recipient.
Wells Fargo proof of funds letter
For a home purchase or a large deposit, ask the banker for a letter that states your available balance as of a specific date. Tell them which accounts to include.
Proof of funds usually needs to be recent, often within 30 to 60 days, so time the request close to when you will submit it. You can draft what the recipient is asking for with our free proof of funds letter generator.
Statement, letter, or income report: which to send
People asking for a Wells Fargo bank statement usually want proof of one of three things: that the account is yours, how much is in it, or how much you earn. Send the document that answers their actual question.
| Document | Where it comes from | What it shows | How fast | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bank statement | You download it | Every transaction and the balance for one month | Minutes | Most rental applications and loan files |
| Bank verification letter | A banker prepares it | That the account exists, its open date, sometimes the balance | Same day to a few business days | Visas, some leases, employers, vendors |
| Proof of funds letter | A banker prepares it | Available balance as of a date | Same day to a few business days | Home purchases, large deposits, investors |
| Bank-connected income report | Built from a read-only bank connection | Recurring deposits, estimated monthly income, balances | About 5 minutes | Showing income without sending every transaction |
Does Wells Fargo work with Plaid?
Yes. Wells Fargo connects to Plaid, the service most budgeting, lending, and income apps use to read bank data. When you choose Wells Fargo, you sign in on Wells Fargo’s own page and pick which accounts to share, so the app never receives your password.
Wells Fargo’s Control Tower, in the app and online, shows which third-party apps can access your accounts and lets you turn access off. You can also manage Plaid connections across banks at my.plaid.com.
Sending a Wells Fargo bank statement to a landlord or lender
Send the PDF you downloaded, not screenshots, and send only the months they ask for. Two or three recent statements are typical for a rental application. Lenders often want two full months with every page, including blank ones.
A statement shows every purchase you made that month. If you would rather share a summary, you can connect your Wells Fargo account and create an income report from your bank deposits. It shows recurring deposits and an estimated monthly income, and it comes straight from the bank, so the person reading it does not have to wonder whether a PDF was edited.
Reviewing statements from an applicant? Our bank statement checker walks through the signs of an altered statement, and you can ask applicants to connect their bank instead of uploading files.
