Invoice Calculator
Work out what an invoice adds up to. Enter the subtotal, an optional discount and tax rate, and shipping, and see each line and the total due. Free and instant.
How the total is calculated
- Discount = subtotal × discount %
- Taxable amount = subtotal − discount
- Tax = taxable amount × tax rate
- Total = taxable amount + tax + shipping
Example. A $2,400 subtotal with a 10% discount leaves $2,160. At 6% tax that adds $129.60, so the total is $2,289.60 with no shipping.
Things to check
- This calculator applies the discount before tax, which is the usual order. Some jurisdictions tax the pre-discount price, so confirm the rule for yours.
- Shipping is added after tax here. Whether shipping is taxable depends on your state.
- Need the finished document? Put the same numbers into the invoice generator and print it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the discount applied before or after tax?
Usually before: tax is charged on the discounted price. Rules differ for manufacturer coupons and by state, so check your local rules.
Does this save my invoice?
No. It is a calculator only, and nothing leaves your browser. Use the invoice generator to produce a printable invoice.
How do I calculate the tax on an invoice?
Multiply the taxable amount (subtotal minus any discount) by the tax rate. For $2,160 at 6%, that is $2,160 × 0.06 = $129.60.
