Each cell is the share of the 7,017 games whose final score landed on that square. The home team runs down the side and the away team across the top. Darker means more common. If every square were equal, each would be 1.00%.

If you don’t care which team has which digit, a 0 and a 7 together hit in 7.17% of games, while a 2 and a 2 hit in just 0.06%. The best square is more than 62 times as likely as the worst.
Why 0, 7, 3 and 4 win so often
NFL points mostly come in two sizes. A touchdown with the extra point is worth 7, and a field goal is worth 3. Add them up and the totals keep landing on the same last digits: 7, 10, 14, 17, 20, 21, 24, 27, 28, 31. That is why 0 (10, 20, 30), 7 (7, 17, 27), 4 (14, 24) and 3 (3, 13, 23) dominate.
Getting to a 2 or a 5 takes something unusual, like a safety, a missed extra point, or a two-point conversion. Scores such as 12, 15, 22 and 25 do happen, but far less often, so squares with a 2 or 5 rarely pay out.
Every square still starts with equal odds
In a standard pool, players pick their squares before the numbers are drawn. Since the digits are assigned at random afterward, every square has the same 1 in 100 chance when you buy it. These odds only matter once the numbers are on the board, when you can see whether you drew a 0 and 7 or got stuck with a 2 and 5. That random draw is what keeps the game fair, and it is why our free squares pool draws the numbers only after the board is filled.
What this data does and doesn’t cover
These are final scores, overtime included (432 of the games went to overtime), from regular season and playoff games. The source file does not include quarter-by-quarter scores, so we have not calculated first quarter, halftime, or third quarter odds. Expect those to look different: scores are lower early, so squares like 0–0, 0–3, 3–0, 0–7 and 7–0 are much more common after the first quarter than they are at the end of the game.
Super Bowls alone are too few to trust. There were 26 Super Bowls in this period, so each one moves the numbers by several points. In that small sample, final scores ended in 1 most often (19.2%) and never ended in 6, which says more about chance than about the Super Bowl. The full 7,017-game sample is the better guide.

Super Bowl squares odds FAQ
What are the best numbers in Super Bowl squares?
For the final score, 0 and 7 are the best digits. Across 7,017 NFL games from 2000–2025, a team’s final score ended in 0 17.1% of the time and in 7 16.8% of the time, followed by 4 (14.0%) and 3 (13.1%).
What are the worst numbers in Super Bowl squares?
2 and 5 are the worst. Only 4.2% of final scores ended in 2 and 4.3% ended in 5. 9 (5.6%) is next. The 2–2 square hit in just 0.06% of games.
What is the most common final score square?
The single best square was home 0, away 7 at 3.76% of games. Counting either team, a 0 and a 7 together came up in 7.17% of games. If all 100 squares were equal, each would win 1% of the time, so the top square is about 4 times as likely as average.
Do these odds apply to every quarter?
No. This data covers final scores only. Early in the game scores are lower, so squares like 0–0, 0–3, 0–7, and 7–0 win far more often after the first quarter. The general pattern of 0, 3, 4, and 7 being strong still holds, but the exact percentages differ by quarter.
Can I pick the best numbers in a squares pool?
Not in a fair pool. Players choose squares first and the numbers 0–9 are drawn at random afterward, so every square starts with the same 1 in 100 chance. These odds tell you how lucky your draw was, not which square to buy.
Where does this data come from?
Final scores for every completed NFL regular season and playoff game from 2000–2025 in the free, public nflverse nfldata games.csv file maintained by the nflverse project. We took the last digit of each team’s final score, overtime included, and counted every combination.
